Carlo Greppi masterfully resurrects the life of Lorenzo Perrone in A Man of Few Words, telling how a humble bricklayer risked everything to smuggle food, clothing, and hope into Auschwitz for the imprisoned chemist Primo Levi.
Against the backdrop of one of history’s darkest chapters, Perrone’s quiet courage and altruism shine through—he performed his acts without expectation of reward or recognition. Greppi navigates sparse documentation and leaning heavily on Levi’s own account to paint a vivid portrait of a man of few words but profound impact.
Their friendship, born in a death camp, sustained beyond it, becomes a testament to what moral integrity can endure.
