Professor Khalid Bekkaoui from the University of Fez presents, Necklace and Pomegranates, a richly textured tale set in the vibrant crossroads of late Victorian Gibraltar. The novel tells of Sayfudeen, a Moroccan merchant of Hispano-Moorish heritage, whose life becomes entangled in cross-cultural romance, identity, and the legacies of empire. Against the backdrop of trade, migration, and colonial influence, themes of memory, loss and belonging thread through every chapter.

Bekkaoui draws on his deep knowledge of diaspora, cultural exchange and historical nuance to bring to life the tensions and beauty of multiple worlds meeting. This is more than a love story: a bold reflection on how identities are forged, challenged and reconciled across borders. For readers drawn to historical fiction with moral complexity and cross-cultural resonance, Necklace and Pomegranates offers both heart and insight.
