About this event: Drawing on extensive original research, Richard Garcia uncovers the little-known story of Gibraltar in the months leading up to the Second World War. Exploring daily life on the Rock in 1939, the outbreak of war, and its profound impact on the civilian population, he reveals how Gibraltarians experienced a period of uncertainty and upheaval before the evacuation of women and children began in 1940. Illustrated throughout and based on a wealth of primary sources that have never previously been examined as a whole, this fascinating talk sheds new light on a pivotal chapter of Gibraltar's history and presents remarkable findings never published before.
